Clean Eating for Beginners

Clean Eating for Beginners

The struggle is REAL when it comes to healthy eating.

Self-isolation and being at home without having access to my gym life anymore due to lockdown restrictions are making it hard AF to keep up with my old routines.  Nevertheless, discipline is a must! Remember I told you how much I hate to exercise?  The gym helped me so much.  I would commit to it as I know there was a monthly fee being deducted from my checking account, so I would get my butt there after work and pound that treadmill! “Waste not Want not!”  I’ve always heard the buzz about Clean Eating so I thought I’d research and get into it.  Diet is also a major part of keeping healthy after all.

Eating clean is essentially choosing a variety of natural minimally processed foods for your meals.  Eating foods that are in the same form as when it was grown.  If your goal is to keep the weight off and maintain your ideal number.  Follow me on this journey for great tips as a beginner myself.  There are also great benefits to clean eating besides weight loss: better digestion creates more energy, healthier skin, and best of all, mental clarity.

Firstly, let’s take baby steps.  Start by paying attention to the Ingredient labels when you’re grocery shopping.  They are listed in order of the most present in the food to the least present.  The first few ingredients are the most important.  Make sure everything on the label is recognizable.  Make sure to check for sugar or sodium content.

Secondly, let’s add one vegetable or fruit to our meal plan per day.

VEGETABLE – broccoli, green beans, or cauliflower. Celery, cucumbers, or carrots.
FRUITS – Mango, pineapple, apple, bananas, or oranges

Thirdly, let’s try recipes with a clean eating version of most of our favorite foods.  Pinterest is my go-to for this option.  There are so many great recipes that I’ve pinned to try often.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far that I’ve found on Pinterest:

  • Spicy Chicken and Sweet Potato
  • Baked Chicken, Broccoli and Roasted Sweet Potato (yeah I really love Sweet Potato)
  • Pan-Fried Salmon with String Beans (I swapped Asparagus as I’m not a huge fan) and
    Couscous Salad
  • Slow Cooker Herb Crusted Turkey Breast (the Slow Cooker is my new best friend, next the purchase will be the Air Fryer)
  • Carrot Celery Juice
  • Mango Peach Breakfast Smoothie

Here’s a great tip: Cook what you love.  Don’t force yourself to eat broccoli if you hate it.  Choose red peppers or carrots as a substitute. It’s just as healthy.

The clean eating basics are simple.  No junk food, no processed food, no foods with high sugar and salt content, no foods with a thousand ingredients half of which you can’t even pronounce. Keep eating REAL foods.  Fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

Follow the guidelines of what is and isn’t clean until it becomes a daily routine for you. I sent a great gem to my new subscribers to get your printable CLEAN EATING GROCERY LIST to help as a guide.  Subscribe to get your copy. Bon Appetit!
